Full Job and Person Description

Trafford Carers Centre is seeking an inspiring individual to shape, influence and drive forward our organisation to deliver services that best meet the needs of unpaid carers supporting someone in Trafford.

As part of the Senior Leadership Team, the post holder will support the operational management and leadership of the Young Carers Project. They will combine strategic oversight with operational management supporting the young carers team. The post holder will have a pivotal and influential role in developing partnerships, strategic growth and demonstrating impact.

You will be educated to degree level or have an equivalent level of proven experience relevant to the role. With a strong emphasis on people management, quality assessing, impact measurement, building successful partnerships, delivering results and inspiring others. You will work effectively in collaboration with funders, VCSFE groups, schools and carers.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To support operational delivery of assessments, reviews and carer support including activities, events, carer support fund and crisis fund.
  • To manage events and activities, including budgets.
  • To manage a young carers team and student placements through supervision and performance management to deliver assessments, reviews and carer support.
  • To support volunteers helping to deliver operational services.
  • To manage and maintain records of staff annual leave and absences.
  • To lead and support on performance management, grievances and disciplinaries arising within the organisation.
  • To lead and manage safeguarding issues arising through casework and/or carer engagement.
  • To ensure effective administration and health & safety management.
  • To develop strong and effective external relationships and partnerships to enable place based working relationships and enhanced carer support.
  • To deputise for the Deputy Chief Executive as and when requested.

Management and performance:

  • Take a strategic role across operational services, working alongside and supporting the senior leadership team responsible for casework, health & wellbeing and young carers.
  • To carry out quality assurance work undertaken by caseworker to ensure effective assessments are in place to meet the needs of carers.

Partnerships and Communications:

  • To maximise use of Trafford Carers Centre website and social media for awareness raising initiatives.
  • To attend stakeholder events to promote Trafford Carers Centre as appropriate.
  • Advocate the concerns of the voluntary sector and encourage joint planning and co-design of solutions

Community Health Engagement Facilitator (Freelance Associate)

Title: Community Health Engagement Facilitator (Freelance Associate)

Fee: £19 per hour

Hours: Approximately 10–16 hours per month (Flexible delivery model including occasional evenings and community events)

Location: Community-based across Trafford, with some remote/home-based

Accountable to: Carer Support and Engagement Manager

Length of contract: Fixed-term freelance contract for 24 months (subject to funding)

Full Job Description and Person Specification

Project Background

This role is funded through the Trafford Community Collective Community-led Health Engagement Grant.

The project will deliver a structured programme of community engagement activities with unpaid carers, with a particular focus on carers from ethnically diverse and LGBTQ+ communities.

The Community Health Engagement Facilitator will support the development of a community-led engagement model, helping Trafford Carers Centre strengthen relationships with communities who may be less likely to access traditional support services.

The role will also support Trafford Carers Centre’s involvement in wider partnership and co-production activity, helping ensure carers’ lived experiences directly influence local health and care services.

Purpose of the Role

The Community Health Engagement Facilitator will:

  • Deliver community-led engagement activities with unpaid carers
  • Build trusted relationships with underrepresented communities
  • Facilitate safe and inclusive conversations around health inequalities and access to support
  • Gather and share insight to influence service design and development
  • Develop and facilitate a monthly culturally inclusive carers social/support group
  • Strengthen links between Trafford Carers Centre, local communities and partner organisations

The role will act as a bridge between carers, community organisations and health and care partners, ensuring lived experience helps shape future support and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver a minimum of 6 engagement activities per year, including focus groups, workshops, informal discussions and community conversations
  • Engage proactively with carers from underrepresented communities, including ethnically diverse and LGBTQ+ carers
  • Build positive relationships with local community organisations, faith groups and voluntary sector partners
  • Work collaboratively with Trafford Carers Centre staff to maximise engagement opportunities across existing activities and events
  • Create safe, welcoming and culturally inclusive environments for engagement
  • Support carers to share their experiences, ideas and feedback in ways that feel accessible and meaningful
  • Develop and facilitate a monthly social/support group for carers from ethnically diverse communities
  • Encourage peer support, community connection and shared learning
