Christmas can be a stressful time of year for everyone, but for carers, it’s often one more thing to manage in their busy lives. With nearly half of carers reporting that they have had to give up work because of their caring role, and over 70% not prepared for the financial impact of caring, Christmas can be an emotional and difficult time.
This Christmas we were so pleased when, with the support of Key 103’s Mission Christmas, we were able to help 26 children – both young carers and children of carers – and ensure that they had a present to open on Christmas Day. It took some of the pressure off carers, and many admitted they were speechless when given the gifts, incredibly thankful and delighted that someone had thought of them at this time of year.
We were lucky enough to be able to visit the Mission Christmas warehouse and see the incredible work that goes in to providing over 36,000 children in Greater Manchester with gifts. Over £1.6 worth of toys was donated this year, and we were able to apply on behalf of our carers and their families, to receive the toys.
We would like to thank everyone who donated and Key 103’s Mission Christmas team for helping us to make Christmas that bit easier for carers in Trafford.
Merry Christmas from all of us!
