Trafford Carers Centre is a not-for-profit independent, voluntary organisation. We are a limited company by guarantee (no. 4695523) and a registered charity (no. 1102075). Our services are all free and everything you tell us will be kept in confidence. We are here to help all carers and former carers living in Trafford.
Trafford Carers Centre is based in Stretford Memorial Hospital, Old Trafford and was established in 1996 in order to provide a comprehensive support service for informal carers living within the metropolitan borough of Trafford.
Negotiations for a Carers Centre in Trafford began in 1995 when the Princess Royal Trust for Carers approached the Director of Social Services, having identified potential corporate funding from both Kellogg's and Signet. At the same time negotiations were taking place between Trafford Social Services and Salford and Trafford Health Authority, to see if a resource centre could be developed on the site of the Stretford Memorial Hospital in Old Trafford.
Trafford Carers Centre began life as part of Age Concern Trafford who provided us with support during our initial stages but is now an independent company and charity serving all carers in the Trafford area. The Centre continues to be funded mainly from Trafford Social Services with some funding from private companies and the Primary Care Trusts in Trafford.
Trafford Carers Centre's vision is of a society in which carers recognise their own needs, achieve their aspirations, and are fully understood, valued and supported in their chosen caring role.
The aims of Trafford Carers Centre are:
To provide information, advice and support to all carers, former carers and those working with and for carers in and around the metropolitan borough of Trafford, aiming to improve carers' physical, psychological and social lives.
To enable carers and former carers to have an independent voice to positively and effectively influence the development of relevant local services.
To promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of carers, former carers and those working with and for carers in and around the metropolitan borough of Trafford and in particular the advancement of education and furtherance of health and the relief of poverty, distress and sickness.
The Centre's strategic goals are:
1. Carers know about the Centre, find it accessible and perceive it as a service for them.
2. Carers are educated about services, their rights and other information they need to carry out their chosen caring role effectively.
3. Carers are able to recognise their own needs as important and are supported to take action to improve their lives.
4. Carers will feel less stressed and isolated and feel more healthy and confident and thus better able to carry out the role they choose.
5. Carers will have a stronger voice in service development and the Centre will help to ensure that services better fit carers' needs.
6. The Carers Centre team are supported to develop and are committed to continual improvement so that carers stay confident in the quality of the Centre's services.
7. The Carers Centre will endeavour to grow and develop in accordance with carers' needs and will use its resources effectively and efficiently.
